It’s not just on the London tube that I take ‘candid portraits’ of people that take my interest, on the odd occasion that I travel by bus I always try and take a few ‘portraits’. I think for me the ‘genre’ is more Street Photography then portraiture as such.
I find this image both strange and amusing. The angle of the man’s body and arm makes it appear as if the yellow pole is coming out of his back, and as the pole is bending to the left, the head of the man mirrors this angle leaning to the right.
He was so immersed in the book he was reading and listening to load music, that he was unaware (or so he made out) that I was up close taking his photograph. Other people close by were not!
As a professional photographer I am still waiting for a commission to be shot using an iPhone. And would I take it – well let me be asked first, and then I’ll tell you.
